Why not demo this idea by teaching people using problem solving angle to pick up a new language? Perhaps providing perspective like those piano learning video where it showcases the progressive improvement of every additinal 50 hours of practice . That way, it not only inspires aduience to try themselves but also clear doubts audience potentionly have in their mind when they see you in actions.

Love the humor in this. The valuable idea also. I found myself unable to complete a project that doesn't fix any meaningful problem. Like creating various games. Way too boring and pointless. But when it comes to automating the manual process – motivation goes up instantly.

I had a couple of tech interviews which were about definitions. There were obly one when we discussed about problems and my experience with this programming construction.

Second, if you are a senior in one language and want to switch to another then there is a problem cause they are evaluating you by skills in a new language and because of itbis even harder to switch.

Well actually, i bought a piano one year ago and i've only been practicing scales and arpeggios the whole time, so the way to learn and develop technical skills is very personal, one is mathematical and methodical the other is more messy and frammented. I think the same way about coding or anything else.

This is the best way normal people learn. However weirdos like me want to take just a few elements and see how deep the rabbit hole is just with those elements forget what is useful. Programming is for discovery. But again I am a weirdo. The game of life WYSIWYG.

    Holy. This just enlighten me.

When I was trying to learn MATLAB, I had a goal in mind: solve a factorial -> this lead me to learn loops, arrays etc.
I wanted to develop a code to make a plateu and solve a problem (final project) -> learn many cool tricks like replacing variables with a certain value
Etc. Everything I learned was because I had a goal.

Now that I want to learn Python because apparently everywhere I look for all employers for some reason want someone who knows python, I don't really have that "motivation". That end goal. I was gonna treat it like a normal class. Where in class 1 I learn something, in class 2 something else etc.

I am approaching it wrong. Rather than doing it that way, I can just say "hey, I want to make a website!" Or "I want to solve this math problem. Let's see if I can do it in python lol" … That's what I need. A target. A goal. To do something with the code, rather than just "code to code".

I think this really helped me a lot. Thank you!

Very bad advice. Learning without understanding the basics will lead to shaky execution. Yes for hobby projects you don't need to get too much into the theory but to really learn something so that you are confident in what you have built you will need to have strong fundamentals. And it doesn't take much time. Just imagine if doctors thought like this 😉 Don't learn about the human body just learn how to do operation 🙂

I just couldn't get on with python.
The whole environments and installing multiple versions is tedious. I found building exe files and UIs hard. I also hate defining scope by indents. Too much of a faff.
I also couldn't extend an IDE to match the convenience of Visual Studio.

Before trying python I loved php but its uses are limited, website backends and that's it.

For me C# is where it's at. It's taken me a while to fully embrace an object oriented language and I found access modifiers a pain at first but well worth the effort once it clicks.
