    How do I get a free server…..

  9. Elias Bekele November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

For the cats who couldn't open the applet on the browser (Security settings blocking the applet), just search for "Configure Java" in your computer's program search bar, and open it, then Java Control panel will be opened. Then go to the "Security" tab and at the right bottom you will find a button "Edit Site List", click on it and add the path where your HTML file is located (e.g C:usersbuckyDesktoptestindex.html) to Exception Site List and click Ok. Then you will be able to open the html file directly using your browser without uploading it in a hosting server. Hope this helps!

Everyone who hasn't got a server can just open file as firefox then copy the url from firefox and add it to Java security exceptions list

I don't get the usefulness of this applet, why can't we just have normal hyperlinks instead of too much java coding?

Nice, got this to open in firefox aurora on Windows 7 x64 with an updated java plugin. Unfortunately, goddamn linux's IcedTea plugin didn't play nice and error'd out. That's why you dual boot linux and Windows ladies and gentlemen and other people.

Why exactly do we need a server? I know I can make simple html web pages without a server. But now he just linked HTML with Java code and everybody starts mentioning servers… So do we really need a server? Has anybody out there accomplished this without one?

I couldn't get it to work on my machine (No server involved) so just was wondering.

If anyone is having trouble running due to security settings etc I found a fix.
    Win 7: start>all programs>java>configure java> security panel – change settings to medium.
Test on firefox and it should work.
To run on chrome look on allprograms and if you're running java 7update55 you will need to uninstall and download an older version. 7u51 works perfectly and you don't need a server to run this

  31. Alex Couch November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

C/C++ is not usually recommended for game development. Java is a more reliable and has a larger library to import and has a wider range of ways to make the game. It is just plain easier to import the images, sounds, methods, classes, objects, urls, create the windows, etc. C/C++ is more used for making applications, robots, etc. C/C++ is what makes Windows, while Java is what makes games, software, and just plain make things simpler! 🙂

btw last java its almost like c++ at speed 1.7 java is 40% faster than 1.6 and if you search benchmarks at google you will see about java now its very fast 🙂

You might want to check if you got the html file right (spelling etc.) and it won't work if you use the run button in eclipse, because that makes no connection to the html file. you don't need a server to run it though, you can just run the html file and it will also work.

  35. Brian7694 November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

what if we dont have a server????

  36. Shadow Parallax November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

Alot of people recommend C++ for game development cause it's faster, but Java is easier to learn and use in my opinion. Besides, C++ is a weird language.

  37. Brett Belcher November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

Are you using eclipse? I use BlueJ and had the same problem because my IDE automatically created it's own html file that didn't have the parameters in its code, make sure you are clicking the html document with the parameters in the code. Hope that helps

Awesome tutorials. However my program will not work in this tutorial. When i run my .html file all i see, is the title: "what do you want to visist?" and not the links to the different websites. Any clues on what could be wrong?

Who uses IE these days? Firefox and Chrome are one of the best browsers.

  45. Hang Dong November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

Why the two links only show in chrome, not IE?

  46. Michael Plonski November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

You have to buy a Server OR you can try server-client things with
XAMPP(->google). Uploading itself you can with a program(he also used it) named
    Filezilla.

  47. Karan Dama November 3, 2019 at 11:42 pm - Reply

hey copy paste both the class files which are generated
i.e the one with $ and the other without it too.
    then it will work
