It won't let me connect because the ServerSocket(6789,100) won't work. 🙁

I am so incredibly stuck! I understand that the Connection cannot actually be made yet, but my JAVAFX GUI is rendered useless and is just a white screen, I'm simply showing the Stage, then after that calling startRunning(); in the start method of the JAVAFX class.

I tried calling startRunning(); in a Platform.runLater() and my GUI components then show but the window is still locked up and basically freezing

My GUI will not show because of the indefinite while loop

I'm getting the same problem as people below me, the text area is editable and wont display anything passed throw the append method. I have tried using set text as well, but it wont add to the bottom of the text area(as append is supposed to do) and it is still editable. is there anything else that the chatWindow can be set to other than TextArea? it seems to not work for a lot of people.

  29. TheRainbowLab January 8, 2020 at 1:04 am - Reply

It doesn't HAVE to be, because there is no action listener bound to it so typing has no effect of the I/O portion of the app… But it sure as hell should be. Kudos to you for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed it myself! Happy coding!
